๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Schengen visa requirements for Macanese citizens

Visa-free ยท 90 days

Macanese citizens can travel to the Schengen Area without a visa for short stays.

What the Schengen Area means for Macanese passport holders

The Schengen Area is a group of 29 European countries that have abolished checks at their shared borders. In practice you clear immigration once, on entering the area, and can then travel between members without further passport control.

The 90/180 rule is the part people get wrong. Your 90 visa-free days are shared across the entire area and counted within any rolling 180-day window. Two weeks in Spain, a week in Italy and a month in Germany all draw down the same allowance. The clock does not reset when you cross an internal border, and it does not reset on 1 January.

Entry rules can change at short notice. Always confirm with the consulate of your main destination before booking.

Frequently asked questions

Do Macanese citizens need a visa for the Schengen Area?

Macanese citizens can travel to the Schengen Area without a visa for short stays.

How long can I stay in the Schengen Area?

Short stays are capped at 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, counted across all 29 Schengen countries together โ€” not per country. Once you have used the 90 days, you must leave the entire area until enough days roll off the back of the 180-day window.

Which countries are in the Schengen Area?

The Schengen Area has 29 members: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland. Bulgaria and Romania became full members in 2025.

Where do I apply for a Schengen visa?

Apply at the consulate of your main destination โ€” the country where you will spend the most nights. If you split your time evenly, apply at the country you enter first. A visa issued by any member is generally valid across the whole area.
